Robert SobocińskiIn June 2008, renowned Polish figurative sculptor Robert Sobociński was commissioned to create design mock-ups for the War Memorial statues and the plan is that the final bronze statue will be cast in Poznań, Poland and shipped to Great Britain ready for installation at the National Memorial Arboretum in the early summer of 2009.  This will be followed by an unveiling ceremony during September 2009, to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War.

Born in 1960 in Poznań, Poland,  Robert Sobociński graduated from the sculpture faculty at the Poznań Academy of Fine Arts. He studied architecture at Poznań Polytechnic and has been creating works in bronze for over 20 years. Since the early 1980s,Robert Sobociński has presented his works initially in Poland, then also in Germany, Belgium, and for the past 14 years mainly in France.
